Flex Community Feedback Forum

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Apparently the Flex SDK team had disappointing turns outs for their session at Max, although personally I wouldn’t read to much into that. Max is expensive, and if you are there, it’s highly likely there’s other sessions you might be interested in.

This evening at 6pm GMT the Flex SDK team with be holding a community feed back forum via Adobe connect.

Come speak with the Flex SDK team to voice your interests and concerns. This session will be an opportunity for the community to talk about the Flex SDK
itself and discuss our management of the SDK open source project. Please bring your questions and feedback as the session will primarily be led by you (and could be short if there’s not a lot of input).

CS4 Trials Available

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Finally the CS4 trials are available.

I really could have done with these last week whilst I was waiting for my delivery of CS4, why Adobe would postpone the trials I really don’t understand. Id have thought they’d want people downloading it as soon as its released.

CS4 Trials

On the subject of Adobe’s service, I’ve had a Windows version of Flash that I’ve been trying to exchange for a Mac version for months now. I email em and they say I need to phone. I phone and they say they are really busy and I should email. I’ve hung around on that phone line 5+ times for over 30 mins, still no success. I still have a Windows version in it’s box, without Windows to run it on. Rubbish!

My experience with the store buying CS4 was pretty rubbish too. It felt slow and unresponsive, then after entering all my details, I was told they’d get back to me within 3 working days to state whether my purchase had been successful. I’ve never heard anything like that. Generally I pay for stuff on the web and thats, that. Not we’ll check into this and get back to you. Rant over ;)

Flash, Flex & AIR Package Names

Monday, April 28th, 2008

flash = Flash Player & AIR
fl = Flash
mx = Flex & AIR
air = AIR

Make any sense? Explicit for new users? Does anyone know why the legacy mx is still around?

A while back I suggested the following, and it was brought up in conversation again the other day…

player = Flash Player
flash = Flash
flex = Flex
air = AIR

To be honest I thought the feature request would get quashed straight away, but it’s still there and open. Want to see package names cleaned up for future releases? It’s up to us!

Bi-Directional Text Support for Flash Player 10

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Matt Chotin announced on the Flex Components list that bi-directional text is commited for the next version of the Flash Player also confirmed by Emmy Huang yesterday.

To address the shortcomings and limitations, we are improving the text layout capabilities in the next Flash Player so that at a low level it will enable support of bi-di and complex text in your applications. The new low level text framework will be used to build text components (probably a library of text components) with greater functionality than what we have today.

I’m surprised the blogosphere is so quiet about it, as its been a requested feature from the community for ages.

This is a massive upgrade for the Flash Player, opening up and huge new market for Flash and Flex.
