Simple Flex 2.0 Drag Example

Friday, August 18th, 2006

I read a comment the other day (not sure where it was) where someone requested a simple drag example in Flex 2.0, so I thought i’d knock one up, which includes an example of creating a custom DragSource object (you’d probably want to use a Class as this object instead of just Object, used in this example).

Feature Requests for Flash 9

Monday, August 14th, 2006

The ever listening Flash team are asking for your feature requests for Flash 9.

These have been split into 3 categories:

1. Feature requests for the Flash Player (player only).
2. Feature requests for interactive designers and developers (authoring only).
3. Feature requests for designers and animators (authoring only).

If you require a feature, explain in as much deatail as possible what you require and why. Obviously not everything everyone writes can be implemented and I know it can be frustrating when your particular feature your requested isn’t implemented. The point here is that you get a chance to get your point across direct to the team, so try and support them in their decisions. They are listening to you!

Whats the correct way to display a BitmapData object in Flex 2.0?

I would have thought from the naming that FlexBitmap would hold your BitmapData, but FlexBitmap isn’t a UIComponent so it can only be displayed as in rawChildren.

1. What is the best way to display a BitmapData in Flex (i.e. the Flex 2 version of Bitmap)?

2. What is a FlexBitmap for if it aint an abstract class, it can’t be used in Flex, and it can’t be used in Flash?

Any help appreciated.

Todd posted this pretty simple solution
[as]var myBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(yourBitmapData)
var myImage:Image = new Image()

or if you looking for an object you can use in Flex with the same API as Bitmap, u can use this RealFlexBitmap class (u might want to fill in some of the gaps!)

T-Mobile Web ‘n’ Walk

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

I’ve been with Orange for te last few years and they have provided a great service, but when it comes to Internet access via your phone they are so expensive (£75 for unlimited Internet).

I’m really thinking of moving over to T-Mobile who have some great unlimited internet packages at the moment from around £25 a moth including calls etc. You can even get a T-Mobile card for your laptop for £19.99.

Anyone have anything bad to say about T-Mobile before I take the plunge?
